Competitive Health Services Project

Promoting eHealth solutions in the sparsely populated areas of Europe

Please see a preview of a project video which will be part of the final reporting package.

The peripheral and sparsely populated regions of the Northern Periphery are faced with natural and geographical challenges, such as severe weather conditions, a cold, harsh climate and long distances, which make it more difficult to access health services.

eHealth and advanced ICT solutions can offer a way to provide health services to the sparsely populated regions and rural communities of Europe and allow them to develop and nurture their potential.

The Competitive Health Services project aims to enhance the provision and accessibility of health services in the sparsely populated areas of Europe by developing and implementing innovative eHealth solutions and promoting transfer of the best eHealth practices across the Northern Periphery Area.

Ultimately we aim to create viable and sustainable eHealth services and businesses that will continue to benefit the residents of remote and rural European regions beyond the end of this project. In order to encourage and facilitate transfer of expertise and innovative practices across the Northern Periphery, we will summarize our finding as a road map “An Innovation System for eHealth Services in European Sparsely Populated Areas”.

Our project implementation is carried out three phases:

  1. Mapping of eHealth Services
  2. Assessing the adoption of eHealth Services
  3. Transnational Development & Exchange of eHealth Innovation
